Talented youngster Jerry Afriyie named in Black Stars squad for World Cup qualifiers

Top talent Jerry Afriyie has been included in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.

The promising forward, who made a dream start to his international career by scoring on his Black Stars debut against Niger, is set to play a key role in Ghana’s qualification campaign.

Afriyie’s career has been on a rapid rise since his debut. After making the leap from the lower tiers of Ghanaian football, he secured a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah FC before being loaned to Spanish outfit CD Lugo.

The 18-year-old has hit the ground running in Spain, recently netting a brace for Lugo, further underlining his sharp form ahead of the qualifiers.

With Ghana aiming to bounce back from their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the inclusion of in-form young talents like Afriyie offers a fresh attacking dimension to Otto Addo’s squad.

The Black Stars face Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on March 21 before travelling to Morocco for a tough encounter against Madagascar on March 24.

Afriyie will be looking to build on his impressive performances and make a strong impact as Ghana fight to secure a place at the 2026 World Cup.
