Techiman Metropolitan Department of Agriculture reportedly been broken with Thieves

Drought-relief items stolen from Techiman Agriculture Warehouse

A warehouse belonging to the Techiman Metropolitan Department of Agriculture has reportedly been broken into, with thieves allegedly making away with a large quantity of drought-relief supplies meant for farmers.

According to officials, the stolen items include approximately 98,603 2.5kg bags of rice, 4,447 5kg bags of MP4 fertilizer, and 3,150 5kg bags of Urea fertilizer.

The theft is believed to have occurred about a week after the December 7 General Election.

The Stock Officer at the Department, Madam Grace Obeng Amenya revealed in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the items had arrived a week before the elections and were earmarked for distribution to farmers affected by drought in the region.

“We were preparing to distribute the items when we received a call just before the elections that unknown individuals had broken into the warehouse and stolen them,” Madam Amenya stated.

She further explained that the perpetrators broke the original padlocks securing the facility and replaced them with new ones, presumably to cover up the crime. The matter has since been reported to the police.

A regional investigative team was later deployed to inspect the warehouse. Upon forcing entry, it was confirmed that the supplies were indeed missing.

Mr. Stephen Aidoo, the Techiman Metropolitan Director of Agriculture, also confirmed the incident and told the GNA that investigations are ongoing. However, no arrests have been made so far.
