Ammunition Intercepted On Accra-Benin Route By Volta Regional Police

In the early hours of Friday, April 18, 2025, police officers at the Volta Region’s Tadzewu-Mitsrikasa barrier seized a sizable shipment of ammunition while conducting a normal search.

Officers pulled over a Hyundai bus traveling from Accra to Benin, registered GR 8246-Q, at around 3:30 in the morning. 60 boxes of AAA cartridges (15,000 rounds) and 72 cartons of BB cartridges (18,000 rounds) were found during a vehicle search. The cartridges had been hidden in bags beneath passenger luggage.

Abasou Fousseni, 45, the driver, and Salisu Jalilu, 38, his co-driver, were taken into custody to be questioned. Police information suggested that the co-driver had carried the illegal items into the car, even though both originally denied knowing about the ammunition.

The co-driver is still being held to aid with the investigation, while the driver was later given police inquiry bail to finish the trip with the passengers. His arraignment is scheduled on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to fighting transnational crime and maintaining peace and security throughout the sub-region in a press statement signed by DSP Felix Danku of the Public Affairs Unit of the Service in the Volta Region.
