NPP grants amnesty to suspended members

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has granted a general amnesty to all members of the party who have been suspended or are facing disciplinary proceedings, as part of efforts to foster unity and reconciliation within the party.

“We hereby serve notice that this directive lifts all such suspensions and waives any ongoing proceedings against affected members,” it stated.

In an August 16, 2025 statement signed by the acting National Chairman, Danquah Smith Buttey,  it said the decision was taken at an Emergency National Council meeting held on Friday, July 25, 2025.

It said all disciplinary matters must be handled solely in accordance with the procedures, principles and due process provisions expressly enshrined in the party’s constitution.

Reinstatement

It, however, said members who had forfeited their membership of the party would be required to submit a formal application to the national secretariat for reinstatement.

“Upon reinstatement, you shall remain ineligible to contest any internal party election until a mandatory two-year period has elapsed,” it pointed out.

The statement explained that the measure underscored the NPP’s unwavering commitment to fostering internal cohesion, strengthening solidarity and preparing collectively for the political tasks ahead.

Imposition

It cautioned the leadership of the party at all levels against imposing arbitrary suspensions.

The statement stressed that all disciplinary matters must follow due process as outlined in the party’s constitution.

“The National Secretariat requests your full compliance with this directive,” the statement added, urging party executives across the country to strictly adhere to the new directive.
