Jong Ajax’s youngsters showed both determination and flair in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Roda JC Kerkrade on Friday night, with Dutch-Ghanaian duo Avery Appiah and Don-Angelo Konadu playing key roles.
The game opened brightly as Appiah whipped in a precise cross that found Kayden Wolff, who rose high to head home in the 12th minute. Roda hit back quickly through Anthony van den Hurk from the spot, but Ajax regained control before the break when Wolff struck again with a fine finish from distance.
After halftime, van den Hurk leveled once more, punishing Ajax on the counter. Roda looked to have snatched victory when Luca Maiorano’s rocket made it 3-2 in the 80th minute. But only moments later, Maiorano saw red, leaving Roda vulnerable.
Ajax pressed, and deep into stoppage time, Konadu soared to meet a cross, heading it into Skye Vink’s path. Vink calmly slotted in, sparking wild celebrations on the touchline.
Jong Ajax will play ADO Den Haag on September 15th.
