The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has said that the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has accepted Ghana’s decision not to receive an immigrant, Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
In a Facebook post, Mr Ablakwa said, “The Ghanaian Government is pleased to note that our refusal to accept Abrego Garcia has been duly acknowledged and complied with by the US Department of Homeland Security.”
He explained that the government was satisfied that the DHS had taken steps to notify Garcia’s lawyers and amend court submissions to reflect the fact that Ghana cannot be considered as a deportation destination for the individual.
Mr. Ablakwa reiterated that the Mahama Administration remains committed to transparency and accountability, assuring Ghanaians that every diplomatic decision would continue to be handled with honesty and respect for national sovereignty.
