The God MC made this revelation in a documentary with British Broadcasting Cooperation (BBC). In a documentary titled ‘Hiplife Rewind’ M.anifest stated how the indigenous Ghanaian genre, Hiplife has been ignored for years.

Hiplife is dead because the music’s driving force is the younger people and the younger people do not identify what Hiplife is. The originators of Hiplife were a bit too precious about what it should be so as new versions sonically were happening, you could hear people saying, ‘Oh, this  Jama, this Azonto, is watered down, it’s not real’, you have to evolve or perish and that is what any music form has to understand.

The genre birthed Ghanaian superstars like VIP, Tic Tac, Lord Kenya, Kontihene, Obrafour, Okyeame Kwame, M.anifest, M3nsa and Sarkodie. A host of great personalities have gained a living through the genre.

Highlife is creduted ti Reggie Rockstone as the originator. Yaw Asante is appreciated as the grandfather of the genre. According to him, that is his dues to the Ghana music industry.
