Pensioner bondholders of Ghana have labelled President Akufo Addo and his government as insensitive inducing immeasurable pain.

Some members of the pensioner bondholders are crying for their matured bonds to be paid them. Recallecd finance minister assured them of their matured bond payment.

A meeting was scheduled between the Finance Ministry and the leadership of the pensioners on Thursday, May 11, did not happen after several hours of waiting.

The pensioners have gathered again at the Finance Ministry on day five of their protest to demand payment of outstanding bonds. Akufo Addo and his brother are treating us as beggars with our money.

Speaking to Citi News, Dr Adu Anane Antwi, Convener for the Pensioner Bondholders Forum, mourned they feel disrespected by the government.

Before coming to power, Nana Akufo Addo promised to protect the public purse but this is worse. We need our money to pay our medical bills and other responsibilities.

“After we dispersed from the Ministry of Finance, we were scheduled for a meeting on May 11, for 4 pm, but later it was called for 4:30 pm. It was called upon by the Minister of State at the Ministry, Dr Amin Adam. We were here, we waited for him to finish his meeting, and we exchanged greetings”.

“We waited till 5:45 pm, those we were supposed to meet did not show up, so we left. Then depart for our various houses to eat. Some of us needed to take our medications and rest. We are waiting to get a call from them. All that we are hoping for is to get a call and have a discussion.”

We are also hopeful that government will borrow the excesses from the Treasury bills to pay us all our outstanding matured coupons. Nana Akufo Addo and his government are seeking for a $ 3 million IMF bailout to stabilize the ailing economy.
