Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus and Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, has issued a formal apology to the Attorney General, Hon. Dr. Dominic Ayine, following the circulation of a controversial social media post that accused the Attorney General of corruption.
In a statement released via his verified Facebook page, A-Plus clarified that the viral post circulating on Twitter (X) did not originate from him but from a fake account impersonating his identity. “I wish to unequivocally state that I am not the author of that post. It was made by an account pretending to be me. I have reported the account and urge the public to treat its content with the contempt it deserves,” he wrote.
The tweet in question leveled unsubstantiated corruption allegations against the Attorney General, sparking widespread backlash. A-Plus firmly denied ever making such claims and emphasized that he holds Dr. Ayine in high regard.
However, the MP admitted that in his attempt to respond to the controversy, he published a Facebook post which, while authored by him, used language he now describes as “inappropriate and regrettable.”
“Although I did not write the fake tweet, my reaction to Dr. Ayine’s subsequent comments were harsh and not in keeping with the standard of respect required in public discourse. I sincerely apologize to the Hon. Attorney General, the public, Parliament, and the NDC party,” he stated.
The MP has since deleted the Facebook post and reiterated his commitment to integrity, truth, and responsible communication. He also distanced himself from a recent scandal involving the National Service Secretariat, stressing that he has had no involvement—direct or indirect—in the matter.
A-Plus ended his statement by calling for vigilance against fake news and impersonation on social media, and encouraged the public to rely on verified sources for information.
