Ablakwa Offers GH¢100k Emergency Fund To Assist Flood Victims With Rent
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the MP for North Tongu, has declared his desire to carry out a thorough resettlement and compensation program for the victims of the floods caused by the Akosombo and Kpong Dam spillages.
He declared GH¢100,000 in emergency rent assistance for those victims who were uprooted by floodwaters in September 2023 and are still living in tents.
Following his successful filing of his candidacy form to run in the parliamentary elections on the National Democratic Congress ticket, Mr. Ablakwa made this announcement.
Priority would be given to nursing moms, Mr. Ablakwa emphasized, who can use the fund and pay their rent after locating a suitable place to house their families while they wait for a permanent settlement.
He noted that this is in line with the assistance given to senior citizens, who get a yearly rent advance to help them provide decent housing for their families.
According to reports as of October 2023, the floods harmed over 31,000 people living in 19 communities located in the Asuogyaman District in the Eastern Region and the North, Central, and South Tongu Districts in the Volta Region.
