Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the member of parliament for North Tongu, has delivered medical equipment valued at US$1.2 million to the recently built health center, keeping his word to the Mepe community.
On his birthday, the donation contained a 40-foot shipping container full of vital medical supplies and equipment, including x-ray, endoscopy, ultrasound, anesthetic, and ECG/EKG machines as well as warmers and incubators for infants.
In addition, there were autoclaves, defibrillators, lab freezers, CPAP machines, wheelchairs, sphygmomanometers, labor and delivery beds, OR lights, suction machines, patient monitors, oxygen systems, pulse oximeters, surgery tables, and vaccine storage refrigerators.
The building of the health center and the distribution of equipment are components of Ablakwa’s larger initiatives to restore and assist the North Tongu community following the disastrous leakage from the Akosombo and Kpong Dams last year, which resulted in the displacement of several individuals.
Situated close to a camp established for persons uprooted by the spill, the recently opened medical facility represents a noteworthy advancement in Ablakwa’s plan to transform the Mepe Health Centre into a state-of-the-art hospital by the following year.
As seen by the remarkable array of medical equipment already available, the community is making good progress toward that objective.
Ablakwa conveyed his profound appreciation to his associates, SOS International, situated in the United States, for their continuous assistance and cooperation.
He also praised the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and the Citi FM Foundation for their services and sponsorship.
