Adum Fire: Minority Contributes GHS200K, Calls For Swift Government Action

The administration has been urged by the Parliament’s Minority Caucus to move quickly to rebuild the Adum Market, which was just completely destroyed by fire.

The Minority claims that the incident has had a significant negative impact on the traders’ livelihoods and that immediate government action is required.

Many traders were horrified when the fire, which started early on Friday, March 21, burned many stores and merchandise valued at millions of Ghanaian cedis.

On Monday, April 14, the caucus, headed by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, paid a visit to the impacted traders and gave them 200,000 GHS as support.
In order to help the victims, they also urged the government to release money from the Contingency Fund.

While empathizing with the traders, Afenyo-Markin assured that the Minority would raise the matter on the floor of Parliament and push for the necessary support to help the traders rebuild their lives.

“I take this opportunity to make a humble plea to the government of Ghana, that looking at the situation we find here, obviously the traders are suffering. We know the commitment the government made in some other areas.

“We urge the government to take funds from the contingency funds and immediately and without delay come to the rescue of the suffering traders of Adum. I believe that within a year, if the government is committed to constructing the market, the government will be able to do it,” he assured.
