Akandoh reaffirms commitment to GH¢130m La General Hospital project

The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the La General Hospital redevelopment project, describing it as crucial to easing pressure on the Ridge Hospital and other health facilities within the Accra metropolis.
During an inspection tour of the project site in La, the Minister received a detailed briefing from the contractors on the progress of work and challenges encountered.
He disclosed that the government had made a budgetary allocation of GH¢130 million for the project and that the Ministry of Finance was expediting payment processes to ensure uninterrupted work.
“This project is very dear to our hearts. We have made the necessary allocations, and I have personally followed up with the Ministry of Finance to ensure the payment process is fast-tracked. Please remain on site and continue your work; the government will do its part,” Mr Akandoh assured.
He urged the contractors to promptly communicate any challenges to the Ministry for redress, adding that his office would continue to monitor progress closely to guarantee timely completion.
The Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, expressed gratitude to the government for its continued commitment, assuring residents that the project remains a top priority.
“We want to assure the people of La Dadekotopon that the hospital will be completed. Government has not abandoned it; we are committed to seeing it through,” she said.
Once completed, the 170-bed La General Hospital is expected to significantly improve access to quality healthcare for residents of La and surrounding communities, while reducing congestion at major referral facilities in Accra.
