In order to guarantee that Ghana’s presidential and parliamentary elections in December 2024 comes off in a free, fair, transparent, and credible way, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated his commitment to upholding the laws against vigilantism.
As President Akufo-Addo presented the credentials of nine recently appointed diplomats at the Jubilee House, he emphasized the significance of preserving law and order throughout the election season.
He strongly condemned vigilantism and emphasized the government’s commitment to enforcing the law.
The President declared:
“I want to reiterate that as we approach the elections in December, my unwavering determination is to ensure that these elections are conducted in a manner that is free, fair, transparent, and credible. Ghana has been a beacon of democracy on the African continent, and it is our collective duty to safeguard this reputation. Anyone who seeks to subvert the free will of the people will be subject to the arm of the law.
“No candidate or political party is superior to the will of the Ghanaian people. The government is ready to enforce the law against vigilantism, and any individual or group found culpable will face the full rigors of the law. Vigilantism has no place in our democratic space, and we must all work to ensure peaceful elections,”
In the interim, President Akufo-Addo urged all contenders and political parties to uphold the democratic process and the wishes of the Ghanaian people.
He advised them to stay away from any actions that would compromise the integrity of the elections and to run their campaigns in a peaceful manner.
The President also emphasized how the recently appointed diplomats will help Ghana project its image as a democratic and stable nation.
He urged them to respect democratic principles and work to build solid bilateral ties with their host countries in order to assist Ghana’s democratic goals.
