Amaliba: Signing Peace Pact Won’t Solve Electoral Violence

The National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) Director of Conflict Resolution, Abraham Amaliba, has voiced doubts about the 2024 election peace pact’s potential to provide significant results.

His remarks follow the signing of the deal by NDC presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama, in spite of prior indications that the party might not take part.

Under the direction of the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) and the National Peace Council, political parties signed the peace pact, which is a traditional custom meant to guarantee peaceful elections in Ghana.Travel packages

Amaliba criticized the agreement for failing to address the underlying causes of electoral violence during her appearance on Channel One TV’s The Big Issues on Saturday, November 30, 2024.

He maintained that although political leaders are involved in the agreement, the behavior of security forces—who are frequently involved in election-related conflicts—is not sufficiently addressed.

He urged a more comprehensive strategy to address election violence, highlighting the necessity of institutional changes and accountability within Ghana’s security and electoral systems.
