Armed robbers who forced Chinese national to transfer GH₵30,000 mobile money at gunpoint jailed 20 years

Three men have each been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for robbing victims at gunpoint and forcing a Chinese national to transfer GH₵30,000 through mobile money during an armed attack on the Jacobu–Anwiankwanta road in the Ashanti Region.

The Bekwai Circuit Court, on October 27, 2025, convicted the three—Peter Boadi (also known as Kwao Ziggy), Daniel Kwaku Owusu, and Eric Kwaku Danso—for conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery.

According to a statement issued by the Ghana Police Service on Tuesday October 27, 2025 , the convicts carried out the attack at Fiankoma near Jacobu on April 29, 2024.

They robbed their victims of two iPhones and GH₵7,000 in cash, before forcing one of them, a Chinese national, to transfer GH₵30,000 via mobile money to another account.

The statement said the Ashanti South Regional Police Command arrested the suspects between June and September 2024 after a series of intelligence-led operations.

During the arrest, police retrieved one foreign-made Bruni pistol, a locally manufactured pistol, and several rounds of ammunition from Boadi’s residence at Obuasi Bogobiri.

These items were kept as evidence during the trial.

The Police commended the officers who handled the investigation and reaffirmed that it will continue to pursue offenders and ensure they face the full rigour of the law.
