Ashanti Regional Security Council To Handle Stray Cattle
The Ashanti Regional Security Council has issued a stern warning, indicating its intent to start taking responsibility for stray cattle neglected by their owners. This decision comes in response to the ongoing destruction caused by these roaming animals, particularly the damage they inflict on trees planted along streets and other strategic locations within the region. The Council emphasized the need for stricter measures to address this issue effectively.
Concerns have been raised regarding the uncontrolled movement of stray animals, especially on major streets across various parts of the Ashanti Region. The unchecked roaming of these cattle poses a significant threat to both public and private properties, leading to damages that adversely affect the community. In light of these challenges, the Council is determined to intervene and take proactive steps to mitigate the negative impact caused by stray cattle in the region.
As part of its efforts to address this problem, the Ashanti Regional Security Council aims to assert control over stray animals and ensure that they are properly confined by their owners. By taking custody of these cattle, the Council aims to curb their destructive behavior and promote a safer and more orderly environment for residents and businesses in the region.
Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei-Mensah, who chairs the Security Council, said action will be taken against owners.
“We have tried to regreen Kumasi to bring back the garden city that we all knew, unfortunately, we are disturbed by cattle. Almost all the trees we planted in 2023 have been destroyed.
“This time we are going to take stringent action against the owners of the cattle. We’re going to engage people who are good at catching stray cattle, we will pay them within that period, and they will ensure that the trees are not destroyed by cattle.”
