Ashanti Regional Security Council Warns Against Engaging Land Guards

Residents of Kumasi and the surrounding areas have been cautioned by the Ashanti Regional Security Council (ARSC) not to use land guard services to settle land disputes.

Concerns regarding the increase in unlawful activity by land guards in the area were voiced by the ARSC.

In a statement dated June 20, the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) encouraged residents of the area to use the procedures to resolve their land disputes.

Anyone detected using land guard services will be “apprehended, prosecuted, and arraigned before the court,” the Council said.

The Council added that the land guards would not be exempt and would instead be subject to the full force of the law.

In order to maintain regional calm, the Council urged the populace to abide by the mandate.

The statement partly read:

“Based on this fact, the Ashanti Regional Security Council requests all citizens in the region to use the right procedures to address their land disputes rather than to employ the use of land guards whose activities always threaten law-abiding citizens and result in violence.

“The Ashanti Regional Security Council therefore states that any person found to engage the services of land guards will be apprehended, prosecuted, and arraigned before court. The landguards will not be spared either. They will be made to face the full rigours of the law.”

“It is the expectation of the Regional Security Council, that the public will accept the above directives for strict compliance to ensure peace in the region.”
