Authorities Arrest 56 Galamsey Operators In Tarkwa-Nsuaem

On Thursday, March 13, the Western Regional Security Council apprehended 56 illegal miners, also known as galamseyers, at Kadadwen in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality as part of a coordinated operation against illicit mining that involved personnel from the Second Infantry Battalion, the Police, and the Western Naval Command.

Seven galamsey sites saw the arrests, and the suspects included nine females and forty-seven guys. Since then, they have been turned over for processing to the Western Regional Police Command.

The united forces expanded their clampdown beyond the Tarkwa-Nsuaem operation to include the Mpohor District and the Ahanta West Municipality.

The joint operation targeting illegal mining and environmental destruction was led by Western Regional National Security Liaison Officer Brigadier General Musa Whajah.
