Barker-Vormawor Released On GH¢20K Bail After Three Weeks In Custody

Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the organizer of the Democracy Hub demonstration, has been granted GH¢20,000 bail with two sureties.

On Monday, September 23, 2024, Barker-Vormawor and fifty-two other people were taken into custody and accused of causing disruptions in the public during the Democracy Hub demonstration.

Twice a week, he must report to the police.

He is accused of stealing, attacking a public official, assembling illegally, causing unlawful damage, and engaging in offensive behavior that could disturb the peace.

Barker-Vormawor’s appeal to the High Court after the Accra Circuit Court had denied him bail also led to an additional remand.

Given that Barker-Vormawor was already out on bail for treasonous felonies at the time of the alleged event, the High Court judge voiced doubts about his ability to refrain from committing another infraction.

If the prosecution did not start the trial right away, the court threatened to give bail.

Barker-Vormawor’s attorneys subsequently successfully reapplied for bail at the High Court.
