In the event that he wins the presidency in the next December elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared his intentions to improve the Cape Coast Airport.
Speaking on Sunday, August 18, during the NPP’s manifesto launch in Takoradi, Dr. Bawumia disclosed that $2 billion in funding had been obtained from Korean investors to begin the airport’s development.
He discussed his plan to transform Ghana’s aviation industry and underlined the significance of developing public infrastructure.
Creating a private-sector-led Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Tamale Airport is one of his main recommendations. The facility would serve as a hub for logistics, horticulture cargo, and aviation cargo.
In keeping with his promise to improve Ghana’s aviation infrastructure and spur economic growth, Dr. Bawumia has promised to build a new airport in the Upper East Region.
“I will facilitate the establishment of a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Tamale Airport, to develop it into an aviation cargo, horticultural cargo, and logistics hub; commence the development of the Cape Coast Airport, for which funding has been secured under the $2 billion Korean facility, in collaboration with the private sector; and build an airport in the Upper East Region,” he stated.
