Bawumia Awards GH¢60,000 To 2024 NSMQ Finalists
Mfantsipim School, Keta Senior High School, and St. Augustine’s College participated in the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) 2024 grand finale, which took place at the University of Cape Coast’s New Examination Center.
Cape Coast, which is sometimes referred to as Ghana’s educational citadel, hosted this year’s NSMQ. The founding of the Philip Quaque School in Cape Coast, the former capital of Ghana, marked the beginning of formal education in the Gold Coast.
The Central Region, which was hosting the competition for the first time, maintained optimism from the start by chanting “host and win.”
In the final match, Keta Senior High School from the Volta Region faced off against two Cape Coast schools. Mfantsipim School and St. Augustine’s College played a closely contested match, with Mfantsipim School winning by a slim margin of 47 to 46.
Following victories in 2014 and 1999, Mfantsipim School won the 2024 National Science and Maths Quiz for the third time.
The 2024 NSMQ finalist schools received GH¢60,000 in total from Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. GH¢10,000 was given to each of the three schools, GH¢5,000 to their teachers (trainers), and GH¢5,000 to the schools themselves.
On behalf of Dr. Bawumia, Mrs. Justina Marigold Assan, the Central Regional Minister, delivered the monetary awards.
The contestants and schools received numerous prizes and awards for their outstanding performances.
