Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president and presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), celebrated his 61st birthday by giving to patients at the Weija Leprosarium in Accra.
Dr. Bawumia frequently celebrates his birthday and other major occasions with the leprosarium’s residents as the patron of the Ghana Lepers Council.
The Vice President made sure they were remembered by sending a variety of food items and financial donations to honor the event, even though he was unable to see them in person owing to a hectic schedule.
A bull, 20 cartons of cooking oil, 20 cartons of canned tomatoes, 50 boxes of biscuits, 100 cartons of water, and 100 bags of rice were among the donations. Furthermore, Dr. Bawumia contributed 61,000 Ghana Cedis in symbolic exchange, signifying his age.
Receiving the items, Rev. Father Andrew Campbell expressed immense gratitude on behalf of the leprosarium. “We cannot thank him enough for what he always does for us. Always on his birthday and other important occasions, he remembers us. We thank him so much,” Father Campbell said.
Father Campbell also expressed gratitude to Dr. Bawumia for his continued support of the leprosarium and those in need, particularly for his help with a girl undergoing specialized medical care overseas.
