Bawumia Promises To Extend Drivers Licence Renewal Period To 10 Years

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), is a proponent of extensive modifications to the driver’s license renewal procedure.

Driver’s licenses are renewed every two years, in contrast to Ghanaian passports, which are currently updated every ten years.

All drivers must renew or validate their licenses every two (2) years from the date of issuance, according to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), whose mission is to ensure the use of roadworthy cars and promote acceptable driving standards.

Because of this, drivers face a great deal of harassment from the police and DVLA for failing to renew their licenses.

However, Dr. Bawumia thinks that the existing system needs to be extended because it causes drivers inconvenience.

“Drivers are here; today, the driver’s license expires every two years,” Dr. Bawumia stated, addressing chiefs and other stakeholders at Boadua in the Eastern Region’s Akwatia Constituency. Let’s give it an extra eight or ten years. Allow us to ensure that you can maintain your driver’s license without needing to renew it annually. We would make adjustments by the grace of God because it is illogical.
