Bawumia Promises To Remove Mobile Phone Import Duties And Abolish E-Levy

If elected in the general elections of 2024, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has reiterated his pledge to do away with the controversial E-Levy.

In order to make mobile phones more accessible to Ghanaians, he also reaffirmed his commitment to remove import taxes on them.

In his speech to young people in Accra on Sunday, November 3, Dr. Bawumia pledged to make smartphones available at reasonable prices in order to encourage digital empowerment and inclusion.

This action seeks to promote economic growth and close the technology gap.

Dr. Bawumia hopes to advance digitalization, boost Ghana’s economy, and enhance the quality of life for its people by putting these projects into action.

“I will also be abolishing import duties on mobile phones until manufacturing capacity is established in Ghana. So that we can put smartphones and other phones in the hands of the Ghanaian people at an affordable rate. On this digital journey, we will also abolish the E-levy, as we have already stated before.”

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has promised to provide businesses tax amnesty in order to ease financial burdens and foster economic expansion.

By helping companies who are having trouble paying their taxes, this action hopes to free up funds for expansion and job creation.
