According to a statement released by the Holy See Press Office, Pope Francis greeted Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Wednesday, April 24, at the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall’s “Auletta,” or tiny study.

Dr. Bawumia then conferred with Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.

According to the Holy See Press Office, the discussion focused on a number of facets of Ghana’s political and socioeconomic environment while highlighting the Holy See and Ghana’s excellent relationship.

The conversations emphasized the two organizations’ continued cooperation, particularly in vital areas like healthcare and education.

The discussions in the Secretariat of State also covered contemporary international issues, with an emphasis on the security difficulties that the Gulf of Guinea and West African nations confront.

This discussion demonstrates the common interest in resolving regional security concerns and promoting stability in these domains.

Pope Francis and Vice President Bawumia’s meeting represents the Holy See and Ghana’s continued communication and collaboration with the goal of enhancing alliances and resolving shared issues on a national and worldwide scale.

Ghana’s relationship with the Vatican has evolved over the years, marked by occasional high-level interactions and mutual respect. While not as extensive as some diplomatic ties, Ghana and the Vatican maintain cordial relations, often centered around shared values, religious dialogue, and cooperation on humanitarian initiatives. Visits by Ghanaian officials, such as Vice President Bawumia meeting Pope Francis, signify the importance both sides place on nurturing this relationship. Though not always in the spotlight, the bond between Ghana and the Vatican continues to contribute positively to the global community, particularly in fostering interfaith understanding and collaboration on social issues.
