Biden Declares Readiness To Debate Trump For Election

President Biden may have spoken spontaneously when making his remarks on Friday since his campaign did not prepare them in advance.

Mr. Trump and his campaign aides have been putting pressure on Mr. Biden to participate in debates sooner and more frequently than the debate committee had planned in recent weeks.

This is a bit of a turnaround on Mr. Trump’s part because he and other Republican leaders had previously charged that the debate commission—which also chooses debate moderators—is biased in favor of Democrats.

In April 2022, the Republican National Committee announced that it was withdrawing from the debate panel, casting doubt on the Republican nominee’s participation in 2024.

The former president said that his polling advantage demonstrated that Republican voters overwhelmingly backed his campaign, negating the need for debates, and rejected to participate in any of his party’s five primary debates, which were scheduled between August and January of this year.

In March, he was assumed to be the party’s nominee after going on to win all but one of the Republican primary races. There were two debates between Mr. Biden and Mr. Trump in the 2020 presidential race.

The first was very heated, with the president at the time often cutting off Joe Biden and Fox News debate moderator Chris Wallace.

After learning that he had a coronavirus shortly after the second debate, the third debate was rescheduled, but Mr. Trump withdrew when it was converted to a virtual event.

John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon squared off in the first-ever US presidential debate on television in 1960, and Kennedy is usually credited with winning the presidency.

Since 1976, there has been a discussion between the two main party contenders for president at least once every year.
