Lt. General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), is the first person in GAF history to be promoted to the rank of 4-star General.
This momentous promotion is a part of the Ghana Armed Forces’ continuous growth, which also includes the establishment of new commands.
In order to properly supervise the expanding duties of the military, these changes required the Chief of Defence Staff to be promoted in status.
Prior to this appointment, a three-star Lieutenant General had historically served as the GAF’s leader. The promotion of General Oppong-Peprah represents a critical turning point in the development of Ghana’s military leadership system.
The promotion underscores the Armed Forces’ commitment to adapting to new challenges and strengthening its command hierarchy in line with its expanded operational framework.
