Goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen of Villarreal has joined Chelsea on a seven-year contract for £20.7 million.
The 22-year-old Dane established himself as Villarreal’s first-choice goalkeeper and played in 37 games during the previous campaign.
“This move is a dream come true,” said Jorgensen. “I am very excited to have signed for Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“I can’t wait to get to know everyone and to start playing with all my new team-mates.”
Jorgensen is anticipated to challenge Robert Sanchez for Chelsea’s top spot.
Jorgensen, who was born in Sweden, played for the nation at the grade level before deciding to support the Danish Under-21 team, for which he is eligible due to his paternal heritage.
At the age of 15, he joined Villarreal and went through the junior system until making his senior debut for the B team in October 2020.
Jorgensen, who flew to the United States to join Chelsea’s preseason tour, made his La Liga debut in January 2023.
He might play in the final three games for the Blues, which are against Real Madrid, Manchester City, or Club America before they return home the following week.
On Sunday, August 18, Chelsea takes on champion City at home in their Premier League opener (16:30 BST).
