Chief Detained for Suspected Acid Attack on Residents
Nana Oduro Sanamoah Yeboah, the Chief of Achiase in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti Region is facing arrest for allegedly spraying acid on numerous community members.
Eyewitnesses reported that during a meeting on May 3, 2024, regarding boundary demarcation between Achiase and the neighboring town of Daa, the chief became agitated when residents opposed his suggestion. Allegedly, he then took out acid from his pocket and sprayed it on the gathering.
Injuries and Tension
Two women with severe injuries are responding to treatment at the Dominase Government Hospital, while others with minor injuries are also receiving medical care. Additionally, the chief’s son, who is accused of providing the acid, has been apprehended by the Ahwiaa Divisional Police Command.
The situation has caused tension between the two communities, with Achiase residents accusing the chief of trying to sell their land to Nana Oppong Frenyam, the Adankrangya Manhene, who asserts ownership of Daa. The community is considering removing the chief from his position, citing his alleged efforts to sow discord between the communities.
Resolution
Residents are calling on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to step in and address the chieftaincy problem in Daa to avoid more conflict. They stress that the two communities have lived together peacefully in the past and wish to maintain harmony without any turmoil or separation.
A resident of Daa, claiming ownership of the town, alleges Nana Oppong Frenyam has undermined the oath of King Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, allegedly selling plots over the last six years. The residents urge Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to resolve the chieftaincy issue and avoid chaos, claiming Adankrangya Manhene will only cause chaos.
