Ghana has confirmed 43 cases of cholera, with two fatalities.
In the Ada East and West districts of the Greater Accra Region, 12 individuals are presently undergoing treatment, and there have been over 200 suspected cases reported.
According to health experts, some of the confirmed cases were imported from nearby nations that are also dealing with cholera outbreaks.
The Ghana Health Service announced a cholera outbreak in the districts of Ada East and West on October 11.
To stop the spread, the District Security Coordinating Councils have since put in place a number of crucial initiatives.
In an interview with 3news, Dr. Franklyn Asiedu Bekoe, Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service, clarified that the nation’s reaction is concentrated on three primary tactics: contact tracing, early case identification, and sanitation improvement.
He emphasized that Ghanaian traders who crossed regional borders brought in some cases.
In cooperation with many stakeholders, efforts are being done to stop the spread and address sanitary problems in coastal communities.
“Significant progress is being made,” Dr. Bekoe stated. “Oral rehydration centers have been established in the affected areas to provide first aid. Although the number of cases is rising and the risk of spread is high, most cases are mild. Of the 43 confirmed cases, 37 are in Ada East and six in Ada West. We are monitoring close to 200 suspected cases, and 12 individuals remain hospitalized, with two deaths recorded,” he noted.
