Coalition Rather Than Merger: Alan Kyerematen

The political coalition between Alan Kyerematen, the independent candidate, and eight other candidates is not a merger, he has stated.

He claims that these parties have thrown their support behind him and will run for office in the general elections of 2024, but they will do so as members of their own political parties.

Speaking on with Aisha Ibrahim on JoyNews, Alan Kyerematen said that the alliance will decide on a common set of standards and factors to determine who would be a good running partner for him.

The coalition, according to the former trade minister, was created to end Ghana’s political duopoly, which he said was hindering the nation’s democratic system.

We all think that Ghana requires transformative policies in all areas of national life, including the government, the economy, health, education, and energy. Alan Kyerematen stated as much. Consequently, they have also decided to base the partnership on the major transformative plan.

What Alan said:

“The alliance is not a merger of the political entities, it is an alliance…each of the members of the alliance will keep their own symbols but we will all campaign as a group for the general elections in December.”

“They have also agreed as part of the agreement for me to be the presidential candidate,” he said, explaining that the partners have endorsed his candidature and of course, will campaign for him but keep their individual identities.

“We all believe that Ghana needs to have transformational policies in all spheres of national life, in the economy, health, education, energy in government and in other sectors of our national life. So, they have also agreed that they will use the great transformational plan as the blueprint for the alliance.”

“This shows you it is not a marriage of convenience, but we are all fighting for a common course. They are working to ensure Ghana has the things I talked about, so it doesn’t matter that they still keep their political identities once we are talking about the same thing,”
