In response to concerns over their terms of service, the leadership of the Cocoa Carriers Association has directed its members at the Cocoa Marketing Company Limited depots in Tema, Takoradi, and Kumasi to begin an indefinite sit-down strike on Monday, October 7, 2024.
Members of the Association went on a similar walkout in 2022, calling for better pay and working conditions.
During the last strike, numerous warehouses owned by Cocoa Marketing Company Limited left thousands of sacks of cocoa beans unattended.
In an interview with Citi News on Sunday, Raymond Atanga Abobiga, the National Chairman of the Cocoa Carriers Association, gave the order, advising every member to actively engage in the impending indefinite strike.
“We are going to report at work but will be at the gate of the various warehouses and then we are not going to work until they attend to our needs and our demands. I want the management of COCBOD and our directors to know that we are not against an individual and that we are fighting a just cause,” he stated.
