The producer price of cocoa has increased from GH₵3,000 to GH₵3,100 per 64kg bag, according to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. This is a 0.03% increase from the rate established in September for the 2024–2025 harvest season.
The goal of the hike, the president clarified, is to bring cocoa prices into line with the state of the market.
President Akufo-Addo said, “I am pleased to announce an increase in the producer price of cocoa from GH₵48,000 to GH₵49,600 per tonne, raising the price from GH₵3,000 to GH₵3,100 per bag,” during his remarks at the National Farmers’ Day awards in Accra on Friday, November 8.
He stated that the change complies with his instruction to the Minister to provide recurring evaluations to sustain farmers’ earnings in the face of challenges.
The national best farmer was won by 70-year-old Nana Owusu Achiaw Brempong of the Ashanti Region’s Sekyere Central area.
Fifty years after he first started farming, Nana Owusu now owns farms in North America that employ 168 people to grow a variety of commodities, such as cashew and cocoa.
He was rewarded with one million Ghanaian cedis.
The National Best Farmer urged greater efforts to guarantee food security in his award speech at the Farmers Day event on November 8.
Farmers Day Celebrations, which honored farmers for their commitment and economic contribution, were held simultaneously across the nation.
