College Teachers Embarks On Indefinite Strike Today
With effect from Thursday, January 2, 2025, the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has declared its intention to go on indefinite strike.
The announcement comes after the Colleges of Education Teachers Association’s Emergency National Council meeting on Monday, December 30, 2024.
This decision followed previous notices of strike delivered on September 26, 2024, and December 23, 2024, in which the National Labour Commission (NLC) failed to address the concerns highlighted, according to a statement released by CETAG on December 31.
According to CETAG, the government’s persistent disregard for agreed agreements and roadmaps on the unresolved mandatory arbitration award granted by the NLC on May 2, 2023, is the reason this action is now required.
“The National Council of CETAG wishes to state unequivocally that members of the union shall not under any circumstance return to the colleges to undertake any official duties including teaching, and supervision of project work and macro-teaching, until the last pesewa is paid into our accounts. This declaration of an indefinite strike action is in accordance with section 159 of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651).”
