Corruption Eradication My Priority – Nana Addo

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo has said fighting corruption is his number one target.

Before winning the election in 2016, Nana Addo was the man expected by Ghanaians to drive corruption away from the country. Despite being labelled as incorruptible in opposition, some Ghanaians have doubts about that.

The President maintains, he has not thrown his hands in despair in fighting the canker. Through strengthening anti-graft institutions, transparency in governance, and the protection of the public purse.

Nana Akufo-Addo said his government should be credited for some of the giant steps aimed at ending the menace. The president in a telecast address to the nation eve of Constitution Day to mark 30 years of Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

I say, without any form of equivocation, that my government has undertaken, arguably, the boldest initiatives since independence to reform and strengthen the capacity of our institutions to tackle corruption in the public sector. He said.

Martin Amidu, the former Special Prosecutor, called the president the mother serpent of corruption. According to him, the president shields his people from being exposed.

Corruption, according to many activists and Civil Society Organizations has increased under this administration. This administration according to many, tops the list of corruption scandals.

If we seek to prolong our democratic journey, it is imperative that we enhance transparency and accountability in our governance structures, and build strong institutions that can fight corruption and the dissipation of public funds. The president continued.

Nana Addo also disclosed that the creation of the office of the special prosecutor is an indication of his commitment. The fight against corruption has been my topmost priority since becoming president.

The government has mounted a spirited defence for its corruption fight, especially with the establishment of the Special Prosecutor Office.
