Couple Charges Korle-Bu, Akawe Hospital Stole Their Triplets

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and Akawe Government Hospital have been accused by a couple residing in Mallam Kokroko, in the Weija Gbawe Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, of snatching their newborn triplets.

The triplets’ mother, Hilda Ninson, claims that on August 3, 2024, she gave birth to her premature children in Akawe Government Hospital.

The staff, under the direction of a nurse called Auntie Mercy, made arrangements for her triplets to be transferred to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital the following day because the hospital was out of incubators.

Hilda says her husband was sent to get some medication when he arrived at Korle-Bu.

The hospital workers told him one of the babies had passed away while he was away.Upon his return, he claimed that the body that was shown to him didn’t look like the two other babies who had survived.

They allege that hours later, when her husband returned from buying more medications, he was informed that a second baby had also passed away by medical officials.

The couple said that on August 5, 2024, they got a call from Korle-Bu’s NICU telling them that the third triplet had also died.

The upset mother believes that the doctors at Korle Bu have aged her children.

She related an incident in which she was asked to give one of the babies away by a Social Welfare official at Akawe Hospital.

Additionally, Patrick Gyasi, her husband, says he overheard Auntie Mercy, a midwife at Akawe Hospital, talking about selling the babies since the couple was struggling financially.

Patrick claims the bodies he was shown were significantly older than his triplets, and he is demanding justice.

When Adom News reached out to the Akawe Government Hospital’s administration, they confirmed that Hilda gave birth there and that the kids were moved to Korle-Bu since there weren’t enough incubators.

They claimed, however, that they were not aware of the events at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and were therefore unable to comment.

Dr. David Kwabena Okoh, the medical director of Weija-Gbawe Municipal Hospital, stated that the triplets had been referred to Korle-Bu. However, he chose not to comment on what transpired after the transfer.

The couple is demanding an investigation and answers because they believe foul play played a role in their triplets’ deaths.
