Cyril Ramaphosa Re-elected As President Of South Africa

Theth Africa’s parliament has re-elected Cyril Ramaphosa as president after a historic coalition deal between the ruling ANC and opposition parties.

The new unity government includes Ramaphosa’s ANC, the center-right Democratic Alliance (DA), and smaller parties.

In his victory speech, Ramaphosa praised the coalition and emphasized that voters expect leaders to “act and work together for the good of everyone in our country.”

South Africa’s National Assembly has approved a coalition deal with the Democratic Alliance (DA) to form a new administration. The deal was reached after the ANC lost its parliamentary majority for the first time in 30 years in the recent elections.

The ANC Performance

The ANC secured 40% of the vote, while the DA came second with 22%. The next step is for President Ramaphosa to allocate cabinet positions, which will include DA members.

The multi-party deal does not involve two ANC breakaway parties, but opinion polls suggest many South Africans want this grand coalition to succeed.

Support for the ANC has been declining due to corruption, unemployment, and crime.

South Africa’s President Ramaphosa has confirmed an alliance between the centre-right Democratic Alliance (DA) and the African National Congress (ANC), marking an unprecedented move.

The DA, which has been a rival for decades, has been accused by critics of protecting the economic privileges of the white minority built during apartheid.

The National Assembly swore in a speaker from the ANC, while the post of deputy speaker went to the DA.

Julius Malema, head of the Economic Freedom Fighters, criticized the agreement, stating that he does not agree to the marriage of convenience to consolidate white monopoly power over the economy and means of production in South Africa.
