On Friday, October 11, 2024, an accident in Atwedie, close to Juaso, on the Accra-Kumasi route is said to have resulted in the immediate death of six people.
A sprinter bus traveling from Togo to Kumasi with registration number AS 6313-16 collided with a VIP coach traveling from Tamale to Accra with registration number AC 1550-17, causing the accident.
Five people in the sprinter and one person in the VIP bus perished instantly.The driver of the sprinter bus reportedly made a mistaken overtake, which caused the collision.
The deceased have been placed in the Yawkwei mortuary for preservation, while the injured were sent to the Konongo Government Hospital for emergency care.
John Boakye, an assistant officer at the Asante Akyem Fire Station, verified the regrettable event.
He said that every risk that might have resulted in a fire had been removed.
In an effort to prevent these tragic deaths, Mr. Boakye advised drivers to drive cautiously and at a reduced speed.
