During a Saturday event in Pennsylvania, a 20-year-old gunman shot and injured Donald Trump, causing one of the most horrific acts of violence in political history.
The attacker fired an AR rifle from a rooftop 130 yards from the stage, striking the former president in the face, causing blood to cover his ear as he addressed thousands of followers.
The audience erupted in screams and at least eight bullets were fired as Trump’s Secret Service operatives surrounded him.
He then stood up, lifted his fist, and said, “Fight, fight, fight,” as he was taken to the hospital and quickly left the scene. A few hours later, he made a statement stating that everything was okay and being cared for.
The attacker killed a bystander before being shot and killed, raising questions about how he accessed the former president. FBI agent Kevin Rojek called it an ‘attempted assassination’ and found it surprising the gunman fired multiple rounds before Secret Service intervened. The suspect is yet to be formally identified, and the incident is being viewed as a major security failure.
Before the shooting, Rojek said, law enforcement had been called to many suspicious actions.
