
President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr. Ishmael Yamson as the Chairman of the seven-member National Economic Dialogue (NED) Planning Committee, a key initiative under the government’s 120-day Social Contract with Ghanaians.
Dr. Yamson who is currently the Chairman of Scancom Ghana Ltd., Mantrac Ghana Ltd., and a respected economist and corporate leader, will oversee the committee tasked with preparing for a National Economic Dialogue aimed at addressing Ghana’s pressing economic challenges and fostering transformative reforms.
The NED is designed to provide a platform for stakeholders to deliberate on the country’s economic priorities, build consensus on necessary reforms, and guide Ghana toward achieving a high-growth, inclusive, and resilient economy.
Under Dr. Yamson’s leadership, the committee will work to:
Communicate the true state of Ghana’s economy to both stakeholders and the general public.
Develop a homegrown fiscal consolidation program to shape the national budget.
Highlight structural reforms and policy priorities critical to resetting the economy.
The committee has been given four weeks to submit a detailed report, including a comprehensive agenda, expert panel coordination, logistics planning, session facilitation, and policy recommendations. Additionally, a communications strategy will be developed to promote and disseminate information about the dialogue.
Known for his decades of experience in economics and governance, Dr. Yamson is expected to bring his expertise and leadership skills to bear in ensuring the success of the NED. His role will be pivotal in shaping discussions that address fiscal challenges and foster sustainable economic growth.
