The new National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, headed by John Dramani Mahama, will endeavor to restore GN Bank, according to Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, Global Chairman of Groupe Nduom.
Speaking at the Coconut Grove Beach Resort in Elmina, one of the conglomerate’s flagship companies, celebrating its 30th anniversary, Dr. Nduom expressed his hope for the bank’s future and possible rebirth.
“GN Bank has always been a people-centered institution, serving communities that many financial institutions overlooked,” Dr Nduom said. “I am hopeful that this new administration will recognize the value we brought to the sector and work with us to restore what was unfairly taken away.”
After a banking industry clean-up accused its leadership of multiple breaches, GN Bank, long one of Ghana’s top indigenous banks, was relegated to a savings and loans institution before going bankrupt.
According to Dr. Nduom, a collaboration with the future government may open the door to a change in direction.
“We built GN Bank with a mission to empower small businesses and rural communities. Its restoration would not only benefit our customers but also contribute significantly to Ghana’s economic growth,” Dr Nduom emphasized.
Reflecting on the broader vision of Group Nduom, he added: “Our businesses have faced challenges, but we remain resilient. I am optimistic that with the right leadership and support, we can rise again stronger than before” he noted.
The celebration of Coconut Grove Beach Resort’s 30th anniversary featured a carols night, community involvement, and moving speeches. Many guests found resonance in Dr. Nduom’s appeal for GN Bank to be restored.
