Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto Meets Thai Rice Investors
Ghana’s agric minister, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has had a fruitful meeting with Thailand’s rice investors.
As part of measures to make Ghana a major exporter of rice, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto has welcomed the Thai investors. Thailand is among the world’s largest producers and consumers of rice. The Asian country has suitable land for the production of rice.
According to the minister, Ghana has huge potential for rice production which is evident in its favourable climatic conditions. Availability of arable lands and open society with a vibrant democracy.

Dr Afriyie Akoto made the appeal when a delegation of investors from Thailand, led by the Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group of Companies (JGC), Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong, and the Honorary Consul of Ghana in Thailand, Dr Sicha Singsomboon, paid a courtesy call on him at the ministry on Friday, December 30, 2022.
The minister added that Ghana has 40,000 hectares of land readily available to support large-scale rice production, hence encouraging the Thai investors to take advantage of it and invest in the sector.
He also assured them of the support of the government of Ghana. Ghana has an investor-worthy economy for investors around the world.

Dr Afriyie Akoto charged the Thai delegation to bring an action programme to his ministry for consideration. The Thai delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen.
Mr Kyerematen said, the government is committed to ensuring the successful implementation of the Ghana-Thailand rice project.
