Bishop Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, the parents of Elrad Amoako, whose activities led to the tragedy that cost two lives at East Legon, have been granted bail by the Accra High Court.
Bail has also been granted for a third accused individual, Linda Bempah, who the prosecution has characterized as a sales assistant at Lilo Stitches, where the suspect’s brother works.
The alleged driver’s parents, Salifu and Mouha Amoako, were taken into custody by the police on Tuesday and appeared in court on Wednesday.
They are accused of allowing someone without a license to operate a vehicle.
The two acknowledged during questioning that they had given their child, the case’s suspect, permission to drive to the gym and other locations, in accordance with the prosecution’s facts.
However, the prosecution disclosed in court that Linda Bempah, the third accused, gave the Elrad the keys to the suspect’s mother, Mouha Amoako’s Jaguar.
The accused’s attorneys asked the judge to grant them bail during the Wednesday hearing, citing their fixed residences, productive employment, social standing, and willingness to appear in court.
They added that the accused had no desire to obstruct investigations or conduct another crime while they were free on bond.
They also asked the court to take into account the fact that the accused is facing a misdemeanor charge.
The prosecution requested strict bail terms even though it did not object to the bail application.
Following consideration of the arguments, the judge awarded GHc 50,000 in bail to each of the accused.
