The Electoral Commission (EC) asserts that stolen laptops from its stores cannot impact election integrity or outcomes.
The EC confirmed the theft of five laptops but dismissed claims of stolen biometric verification devices (BVR). The Commission clarified that an internal memo titled “RETURN OF BIOMETRIC VERIFICATION DEVICES” aimed at internal asset reconciliation.
The mentioned memo, circulated on social media, aimed to ensure accountability and return of electoral equipment to EC custody. This highlights the rigorous asset management system, ensuring transparency and accountability for all Commission assets, according to Mr. Michael Boadu, Acting Head of Public Affairs, EC
The Electoral Commission stated that the Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) came equipped with advanced security measures. These features rendered the devices unusable unless properly activated and officially utilized within the electoral system.
“The Electoral Commission emphasized that our elections maintain their integrity,” it stated.
“It assured the public that even if equipment is lost or vandalized, the advanced security measures prevent misuse,” the Commission added.
