EC: Voter Registration Starts May 7

The voter registration will be updated in advance of the December 2024 elections, according to proposals released by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The goal of the exercise, which is set to start on May 7 and expire on May 27, 2024, is to provide newly eligible voters who have just turned 18 the chance to be added to the voter register.

Furthermore, during this time, everyone who is older than eighteen and has not yet registered for a voter ID card will have the chance to do so.

Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chair of Operations at the EC, emphasized the importance of eligible registrants taking part in the exercise during a May Day Forum hosted by Organized Labour.

Additionally, he emphasized that maintaining the integrity and effectiveness of elections depends heavily on the voter registration.

“The voter register plays an important role in securing a very successful election. And for this year’s update of the voter register, the Commission has set from the 7th of May to 27th of May to update the voter register to include those who have attained the age of 18 since the last registration and those who were not able to register during the last registration exercise.”
