ECG assures of reliable power supply in Accra West, warns against illegal reconnection

The Accra West Region of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has assured its customers of reliable power supply as it continues to make significant investments in infrastructure and equipment.
The General Manager for the Accra West Region, Ing. Sariel Etwire, gave the assurance during visits to some production, manufacturing, banking, financial, and educational institutions, collectively classified as Special Load Tariff (SLT) customers of ECG.
The General Manager and her team visited the SLT customers as part of a two-week nationwide revenue mobilisation exercise, dubbed “Operation Pay Your Electricity Bill”, launched by the Acting Managing Director of the Company.
According to ECG, the exercise targets all categories of customers with arrears, including residential, commercial, industrial, and Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MMDAs). Through this exercise, the company aims to retrieve all debts owed by customers to shore up its revenue.
Interacting with management representatives of the SLTs, Ing. Etwire commended customers who promptly settle their bills to ECG. She noted that regular bill payments enable ECG to meet its obligations to external players in the energy supply value chain, thereby avoiding interruptions in power supply.
“In our quest to further improve power reliability to customers, we have injected transformers of higher ratings into several communities whose demand has outgrown the transformers currently serving them. We have also augmented our fault teams to enable them to resolve outage challenges quickly when they occur, to reduce the downtime and improve customer experiences,” she stated.
The SLT customers expressed satisfaction with the reliability of the power supply and called for regular engagements with ECG to strengthen the mutually beneficial relationship that currently exists.
Some SLT customers visited on day one of the exercise included Coral Paints, Fanmilk Ghana Ltd., Decorplast, Ashfoam, Qualiplast, Poly Products, Dizengoff, GIHOC Distilleries and Innolink Ghana Ltd.
Ing. Etwire cautioned customers against interfering with the exercise and/or undertaking illegal self-reconnection after disconnection. She revealed that special monitoring teams have been equipped to apprehend and prosecute such customers.
She encouraged customers to use ECG’s official channels, including the ECG Mobile App or the *226# shortcode, to pay their bills. Customers can reach ECG via its social media handles or call the ECG Contact Centre on 0302 611 611 for any assistance.
The Accra West Region has eight operational districts: Ablekuma, Achimota, Amasaman, Bortianor, Dansoman, Kaneshie, Korle-Bu and Nsawam.
