After a fiercely contested election, Blay Nyameke Armah of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ousted incumbent Sekondi MP Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s Egyapa Mercer received 11,084 votes, or 42.94% of the total valid votes, while Blay Nyameke Armah received 14,558 votes, or 56.40%.
171 of the 25,813 votes that were cast were disqualified.
Egyapa Mercer had previously dominated the 2016 elections, so this represents a substantial change in the Sekondi parliamentary seat.
He easily defeated Emmanuel Assifuah of the NDC and candidates from the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and Convention People’s Party (CPP) in that election, receiving 16,839 votes, or 59.47% of the total valid votes.
Blay Nyameke Armah’s victory signals a strong showing for the NDC in the constituency and reflects a broader trend of keenly contested parliamentary races in the 2024 elections.
