Eight former SpaceX engineers filed a lawsuit against the company and its CEO, Elon Musk, in Los Angeles, California. They claim the company harassed and discriminated against female employees.
The lawsuit, according to theĀ US media, alleges they were fired in 2022 for complaining about the “widespread sexist culture” Musk supposedly encouraged, violating California law. They also claim they faced retaliation for their protests.
The case, filed by four men and four women, asserts that Musk posted derogatory remarks and sexual pictures of employees.
The text reads:
“These actions had the foreseeable result of offending, causing distress and intruding on the well-being of the plaintiffs in order to disrupt their emotional tranquility in the workplace,”
Following this, they wrote a letter expressing concern about Musk’s “shameful” handling of sexual harassment and discrimination faced by female engineers at the company, whose complaints were often ignored.
The eight former employees also urged other executives to denounce Musk’s sexist comments on social media, but these efforts were unsuccessful.
The former workers are asking for an injunction stopping SpaceX from using this “illegal” dismissal formula as well as monetary damages, the amount of which was not disclosed.
SpaceX, on its part, has denied taking this action, claiming that the letter they authored was harmful and that the ex-employees were fired lawfully for breaking company rules.
