The Blindsight gadget, which Neuralink demonstrated recently, is said by Elon Musk to have the potential to completely transform vision restoration for those with severe visual impairments.
Musk recently shared fascinating information regarding the capabilities of the device in a post on his X page.
He claims that as long as the user’s visual brain remains intact, the Blindsight gadget can restore vision even in cases where the user has lost both eyes and optic nerves.
Musk moderated expectations by pointing out that the device may have a low-resolution visual interface at first.
Musk made an audacious forecast when he said that users of the Blindsight device would ultimately be able to discern wavelengths outside of the visible spectrum.
Musk said, “There is a chance that users will be able to see in ultraviolet, infrared, or even radar wavelengths, just like Geordi La Forge from “Star Trek.”
The Blindsight device’s transformative potential has been acknowledged by the FDA in the United States.
The FDA was excited about the technology in reaction to Musk’s statement.
